- It is impossible to name a folder 'con' on a machine using Windows.
- If you type 'Bush hid the facts' without the quotes into notepad and save it, close and reopen it, the words change to this: 畂桳栠摩琠敨映捡獴. Can anyone tell me what this means? (I do hope it's not rude).
1) Yes. CON is a 'reserved' name on Windows machines. It is a name that can only be used by the operating system itself. Thus you are not allowed to use it for naming/re-naming folders.
ReplyDelete2) Most likely a bug in Notepad. http://www.hoax-slayer.com/bush-hid-the-facts-notepad.html
Oh how lucky I am to have big brothers to explain the mysteries of the world to me! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are right. 'Nina ate the cakes' brings up the same thing. However 'Stan ate the cakes' does not. How curious!
Are you responsible for this?? ;-)
Why is 'con' reserved...?
Google is your friend:

In short, a computer needs to know where to find things so these things get given names by the designers and programmers.
Why COM probably a good reason. But you should be glad they didn't choose Ninki :)
Indeed. Thanks for that - and showing me how to find the answer if anything happens to you. ;-)
ReplyDeletePS It's CON, not COM...
